Every year in Madison there is an epic shit show of drunks that's called the Mifflin Street Block Party. Basically two blocks on Mifflin Street are blocked off and college students drink their faces off for the day. Normally the rule is that you can only be consuming alcohol on privately owned property, meaning if you get caught drinking anywhere but in someone's yard or house or porch you get arrested. This year they amended the rules so that you are allowed to drink anything on the street as long as it's not in a glass container. Well this year it was even more of a blast, and I thought I'd give a little recap.
First off I have to mention that a little bit of bullshit happened. A couple of guys got stabbed and one of the stabbings was life threatening. This really pissed me off because I was really happy about the new policy on drinking at Mifflin which will almost certainly be repealed. Not to mention the block party itself being in jeopardy of being completely cancelled indefinitely. You know I understand a few brawls here and there and maybe getting punched out or something, but I don't get stabbing someone. It just makes no sense to me. Anyways last I heard the guy who was in critical condition is going to be okay.
Anyways enough with that melancholy shit. Let's talk about the party. As some of you might know I do this thing at Mifflin where I bring along a bunch of sharpie markers and let anyone draw anything they want almost anywhere on my body. This stunt has earned me the nickname "the sharpie guy" and I really enjoy being a little bit of e celebrity in that small way. Most people love it but a lot of people also criticize my behavior. Many of my peers (as well as a few police officers) have gone out of their way to make sure I know that they disapprove of my little tradition, calling me names from idiot to faggot and telling me they hope I die from ink poisoning. It's just a shame that people can't just forget their inane judgments for one day and just get drunk and have fun.
Like I said though, most people love it and I love seeing people get so excited to draw on me. It's really the best part of being around so many new people. I got sent some really great pics of which I will be posted an album on my facebook. Here are some of my favorites in the mean time.
Anyways fun things that went down other than the sharpie thing. I saw two guys fighting in the street and one of them was practically naked. I saw a guy fall from a two story balcony onto the ground landing ten feet in front of me. I saw a two story beer bong. I got more high fives that I ever have before in my life. I went to a bar, got even more hammered and jumped up on a stage where a live band was playing only to forget the words and make an ass out of myself in front of about a hundred people. The rest of the night is a bit of a blur.
So yeah, I had an awesome time. I recommend attending the party to anyone who likes drinking, smoking, or both. That is of course if there is a party in the years to come.
